John Stanley

Until the Dissolution of Parliament John Stanley was Tonbridge and Malling’s MP.

John and Elizabeth Stanley’s home in the constituency is near Tonbridge.

Between 1979 and 1988, John was Minister for Housing when he brought in the Right to Buy and the Tenants’ Charter, Minister for the Armed Forces and Minister of State for Northern Ireland. He is a member of the House of Commons Foreign Affairs Committee and a Vice-Chairman of the Defence and Security Committee of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly. He is also a Co-Chairman of the All-Party Group on Child Abduction.

John is a Vice-President of Maidstone MENCAP and of the Kent Handicapped Caring Association.

John holds regular ‘surgeries’ and has given help and advice to thousands of individual constituents.
